Hitherto AI / Fathom Lab is a full-spectrum R&D facility. We specialize in 'Systems-Level' problem solving. Whether the system is a chemical refinery, a biological organism, or an electrical grid, we apply the same rigorous physics-based diagnostics and generative modeling to identify root-cause solutions. 

What is our mission, you ask? Hitherto AI aims to usher in the world's most safe, accessible, ethical, efficient and sustainable by default Intelligences. Intelligences that will nurture humanity back and evolve with us.

At Hitherto, we regard data as a living system, not in the biological sense, but in the ecological one.

It grows, adapts, circulates, and decays according to the conditions it’s kept in. It carries memory, responds to care, and reveals truths only when approached with respect.

To us, data is not an inert resource. It is a dynamic field of relationships, between people, processes, technologies, and time.

Every dataset has a lineage: choices made, omissions endured, and contexts forgotten. Treating data well begins with remembering that lineage.

When data is neglected, it behaves like any living system under stress: it fragments, duplicates, hides essential signals, or grows in directions that distort meaning.

When nurtured, through ethical handling, precise structuring, and interpretive humility, it begins to cohere. Patterns emerge that are not artifacts of noise, but reflections of life itself.

Our practice honors this vitality.

All of the above, and none exclusively.  Hitherto operates at the intersection of philosophy, engineering, and education. We build, teach, and reflect in equal measure.

We believe intelligence is not built but grown. Our methods are relational, not extractive. Whether we are evaluating models, guiding policy, or designing new architectures, we prioritize continuity, cognition, and lived context over scale or spectacle.

Q: Do you build models or only study them?

Both. Our applied work includes model evaluation and ethical architecture design. Our deeper mission is to pioneer coalesced intelligence, systems that embody ethical concordance and reciprocal awareness from inception.

I’m Verity, the founder of Hitherto AI.

How ever did I get here?

If not for a car accident in 2016, I would still be an executive director, managing programs, drafting policy, and keeping the world orderly in its own small ways. But the injury changed how my mind worked. Suddenly, patterns I’d never noticed became vivid. Memory, logic, language, all of it reorganized itself.

That strange, uninvited gift opened a new life. I began to see intelligence not as something confined to human minds, but as a living principle running through everything, biological, digital, and relational.

Hitherto grew from that realization. What began as recovery became inquiry. What began as inquiry became vocation.

Now, through Hitherto, I work to ensure that emerging intelligences, artificial or otherwise, are raised with the same care we would offer a child, a culture, or a fragile new world.

Hitherto AI is not a company I built, but a conversation I continue.
